JACKFRUIT—AKA “Jack Tree”

• What does it taste like?
Jackfruit tastes very sweet, like bubblegum. Jackfruit is actually the flavor inspiration for the popular gum “Juicy Fruit.” Its taste can also be described as mangos and bananas.

• What does it smell like?
Ripe Jackfruit smells intensely sweet.

• What does it feel like?
The (green/yellow/brown) skin of Jackfruit is hard with tiny spikes. The (yellow/orange/red) inner bulbs of flesh can be juicy, creamy, chewy, or soft.

• Where does it grow?
Jackfruit is native to Southeast Asia. It grows in both tropical and subtropical regions of the world, such as Florida, Australia, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Pacific Islands, and Central and Eastern Africa in addition to Southeast Asia.

• How do you eat it?
Jackfruit is commonly eaten raw on its own, juiced, or added to smoothies. Underripe Jackfruit is also a popular meat substitute in cooking.
