WAMPEE— AKA “Wampi"
Depending on its ripeness, Wampee tastes sweet-subacidi, with hints of spice and citrus.
When ripe, Wampee smells sweet, earthy, and herbal.
Wampee has a a (brown) shell-like skin that you can peel off, and a (white/translucent) juicy, lychee-like flesh surrounding its (green) seed.
Wampee is popularly cultivated in many Southeast Asian countries- inlcuding China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia. It’s typically available during the mid summer (June-July).
To eat Wampee, you can peel off the skin and enjoy the juicy flesh while discarding the seeds. It can also be incorporated into Southeast Asian cuisine.
